

McELDOWNEY, Edward Joseph, age 80 of Dayton, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016. Ed was born on February 14, 1936 in Versailles, Ohio to the late Wilbur and Clara Monnin McEldowney. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Phyllis J. Fortner McEldowney and his sister, Mary Evelyn (John) Borgert. He is survived by his children, Tony (Victoria), Tim (Barb), and Karen (Mike) Ruck; as well as nine grandchildren, Megan, Morgan, Conner, Cody, Bridget, Colton, Brooke, Ryan, Riley; a brother and best friend, Vernon (Elaine); two sisters, Arlene (Roger) Pohl and Cecelia (Dan) Reid; and many, many nephews and nieces. Ed was a graduate of Versailles High School and Urbana College, served and recognized as a sharp shooter and received the Good Conduct Medal in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany and retired from Delco Products. He was also a faithful longtime member of St. Charles Parish. Spending time with his brother fishing, going to the horse races, and baseball were among his favorite past times. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45429, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Mary’s Food Pantry, 310 Allen St., Dayton, Ohio 45410.
