Elizabeth "Fay" Layden

LAYDEN, Elizabeth "Fay", age 85 of Centerville, passed away Monday June 8th, 2020 at Kettering Medical Center. Fay was on March 25th, 1935born near Heaters, West Virginia. She was the proud daughter of James and Nellie Hardman Greathouse. Fay grew up with 5 sisters Kathleen, Eloise, LaMoine, Carolee and Rhonda. Her early years were spent mostly in Heaters where she graduated from Sutton High School in 1953 with honors. Soon after high school she graduated with a 2 year business administration degree from Mountain State College in Parkersburg, WV. She took a job as a secretary at Union Carbide in Charleston, WV. She met the love of her life Robert "Bob" D. Layden while in Charleston. They were married on September 1, 1961. Her sons Rob, Jim, and Dan were soon to follow. Bob and Fay settled in Dayton, Ohio in the mid 1960's. Fay managed the house and raised her sons. She also spent a considerable amount of time volunteering at her beloved church, Saint George's Episcopal Church in Dayton, Ohio. Fay was a trained Stephen minister with a compassionate heart. She was also a proud graduate of the four year program called EFM (Education for Ministry), an advanced ministry program for lay members of the church through The School of Theology "Sewanee" at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. Her later years were devoted to caring for her husband Bob. She enjoyed watching tennis and other sports. She also enjoyed jeopardy and spiritual writings. Fay was preceded in death by her parents James and Nellie, and sisters Kathleen and LaMoine. She is survived by her husband Bob, sisters Eloise, Carolee and Rhonda, sons Rob, Jim (Nancy), and Dan, and her granddaughters Lydia and Anna.
