

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Elizabeth Joan “Mimi” Sottoway age 89, on Monday, August 31, 2026 at Hospice of Dayton. Elizabeth was born on October 29, 1936, in Vallscreek, West Virginia to parents Earl and Ida (Jewel) Lockhart who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death is a son, Larry Sottoway and a daughter, Melissa Sottoway; a brother, James Lockhart and a sister, O’Reeta Berner.
She is survived by her son, Joe Sottoway; daughter, Reeta (Roger) Whitford; grandchildren, Zacc (Morgan) Sottoway, Lauren (Bryce) Hodges, Mitchell (Paige) Baker, and Brandon (Zoe) Whitford; great grandchildren, Laiken Sottoway, Chandler Sottoway, Krew Hodges, Kolby Hodges, Tate Baker and Gwen Salley.
Elizabeth’s life was defined by the people she cared for, the experiences she shared with others, and the memories she created along the way. She will be remembered for her unique personality, her strength, and the many ways she made a difference in the lives of those around her.
At the request of her family, the funeral service will be private and limited to immediate family and close loved ones. Special thanks to Wayne Sottoway for officiating the funeral service for the family. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and respect for the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
