Emma quietly passed away, in her home, surrounded by her family. She graced this world for 92 remarkable years. Preceded in death by her most loved husband, Robert L. Eddy, and children Loki and Lyana Jo. Her parents and brother also went before her. Survived by her children Rosemarie Dice (Alan), Patricia (Dan), Sylvia Sheridan (Chris), Lyana Martin (Phillip) and Andreas Eddy (Teresa), 47 grand/great/great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born with a German spirit that was both stubborn and resilient, she lived a life filled with love and dedication to her husband and family. She was born in Obermühle, Germany, in 1933 and had many stories of living as a young girl during the war. It was a lot. She was educated and lived in Germany until she married our Air Force father and moved to the United States. Theirs was a sweet love story that lasted 70 and half years! She embraced and took pride in being a career military wife. Becoming an American citizen as quickly as possible was very important to her. During the military years she traveled around the world, sometimes by herself, along with her tribe of children – always catching up with our father.
Our mother survived not only the hardships of wartime but the deaths of two of her children. She was also a cancer survivor. She definitely had some hard times but if you asked anyone who knew her "What does Omi say?" you would no doubt get the answer "Fair Schmair" She was such a tough lady!
For years our parents (Bob and Emma) were very involved members of the Dayton Liederkranz German Club where they sang in the choir and were Volkstanzgrüppe (German folk dancers).
Emma was an excellent German cook and baker. A German meal at her house was always a treat and Christmas wasn’t complete without enjoying her many types of German cookies. She loved entertaining and always created delicious and beautiful spreads. She was talented at many, set aside, skills like knitting, crocheting, darning and hand stitching. She could knit a pair of socks in less than two hours and when after a few years they got holes in them she could darn them so perfectly that they looked like new again.
A master gardener and floral artist, Emma possessed a gift for bringing beauty into the world, whether through the vibrant gardens she tended or the exquisite floral arrangements she crafted with love. Her artistic soul found expression in painting and various other art projects, each piece a testament to her creativity and zest for life.
Our mother/grandmother loved the Lord and now she is with Him. We are really going to miss this special woman, but we will try to remember that to live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.
A visitation for Emma will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St Helen Catholic Church, 5100 Burkhardt Rd, Riverside, Ohio 45431, followed by a mass of christian burial at 11:00 AM.
Emma will be laid to rest in Beaver Cemetery, Dayton - Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio.
