Emma Sue Williams

Emma Sue “Susie” Williams, age 89 of Beavercreek, Ohio passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025. She was born in Morgan County, Kentucky on April 29, 1935 to the late Ova and Lourinda Pelfrey where she grew up until she married.

On January 25, 1951 Emma married Arkie W. Williams, who preceded her in death in 2019. She joined him in Dayton, Ohio where they began their life together, she was a devoted wife and mother.

Emma later began her career in retail sales at Sportsware Mart, Casual Corner, and Talbots until her retirement.

Emma was a long time member of Faith Baptist Church where she faithfully taught Sunday School for over 40 years and sang in the choir and served wherever needed. She loved the Lord and shared her faith with all those she encountered.

One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and great grands. She had a special relationship with each one of them.

If you ever visited her and Arkie’s home you most likely found her in the kitchen and probably was served a meal with food grown and preserved from their garden. She enjoyed teaching others about “home” cooking, even up to the last few months where she would share with her aides about her recipes and cooking. She was also an avid watcher of sports, she enjoyed the PGA tour, college football, the Cincinnati Reds and Kentucky Wildcat basketball.

Emma was preceded in death by two brothers, Sammie Pelfrey and Bill Pelfrey.

She is survived by her children Duane (Denise) Williams, and Ellen (Brian) Powers; grandchildren, Amanda (Jay) Walther, Emily (Rick) Kappel, Kyle (Alex Davis) Williams, Chris (Katie) Powers, Katie (Kevin) Carter; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Bryce, Alivia, Ricky, Lucas, Chloe, Adelaide, Copeland, Bridgers, Brixton, and Layla Lou. Also survived by her siblings; Brenda Coffey, Freddie (Valerie) Pelfrey, Fawna (Bill) Boggs, and sister-in-law Avanell Robbins, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation for Emma held on Monday, May 12, 2025 from 11:00am to 12:30pm at Tobias Funeral Home in Beavercreek. A funeral service will follow at 12:30pm, officiated by Steve Harney, with burial at Byron Cemetery.
