A proud alumnus of the University of Dayton, Gary graduated with a degree in Engineering. He went on to have a distinguished career as a Chemical Engineer, which included 10 years at the University of Dayton Research Institute, 28 years of dedicated service with the United States Air Force, and an additional 10 years as a professional consultant for the USAF.
Gary was a passionately avid fisherman and hunter, interests that naturally fed into his talent as an elaborate storyteller with a great sense of humor and quick wit. He was a deeply grateful man who was always eager to lend a hand or share his knowledge with friends and family. His enthusiastic desire to create perfect vacations and holidays—which often went hilariously awry—affectionately earned him the nickname "Clark Griswold" from those who loved him most. Gary was also a devoted member of the Kirkmont Presbyterian Church and enjoyed spending long hours at the Greene County Fish and Game Association.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sharon; his children, Lisa (Brett) Williford and their children Ryan and Mara; Scott (Lori) Stevenson and their children Amanda and Kyle; Marc (Traci) Stevenson and their children Tori and Carter. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Georgia Stevenson, siblings Patty Snyder and Kenny Stevenson
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at the Tobias Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Celebrate Life Foundations or Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
