George Angelo Poulos was born on June 26th, 1929 to the late Angelo (Pap) and Elizabeth (Waugh) Poulos in Pittsburgh, Pa. He passed away on September 24, 2021 after a heroic and lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sylvia, and a brother and a sister. He leaves behind to continue his legacy 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. George served our country as a tank commander in the Army during the Korean War and proudly wore his Korean War Veteran hat daily. He supported his family and modeled an incredible work ethic to his children with a long career at RCA, NCR, and SRL; but truly, he lived his best life after retiring in 1991 by volunteering at a variety of places, working part-time jobs, and playing in the Beavercreek Strummers Band at the Beavercreek Senior Center. George never met a stranger and was always willing to offer help and advice to everyone. He loved to garden, sing, solve incredibly complex mathematical problems in his head, and play a variety of instruments including guitar, piano, ukelele, and harmonica. In fact, he could actually still play a few songs on his harmonica in the last months of his life. We will miss everything about him including his silliness when he’d say things like “glad you got to see me” and “if you need me, I’ll call you”. Survived by his children Cindy Poulos, Dan Poulos, Linda (Ken) Riddle, Nancy (Karl) George, Tim Poulos, daughter-in-law, Paula Poulos; grandchildren Shaun (Kristin) Poulos, Kelli (Scott) Clary, Stephanie Poulos, Matt Poulos, Andrew Riddle, Jenn Riddle, Todd (Lauren) George, Angie (Brandon ) Grigaliunas, Kelly (Kyle) Kleespies, Tony George; great-grandchildren Alyssa, Hannah, and Harper Poulos, Kylee, Bryson, Averi, and Corbin Clary, Jackson George, Thea and Cooper Kleespies. We would like to thank Carlyle House in Kettering for the outstanding way they cared for our dad and also Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton for the care and support they offered especially in the final days of our dad’s life. A viewing will be held from 4-5pm on Friday, October 8th, 2021 at Tobias Funeral Home Kettering on Rahn Road with a celebration of life/remembrance service following from 5-6. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to The Beavercreek Strummers, The Beavercreek Senior Center, Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, or Alzheimer’s Association in his memory. Condolences may be sent to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com in his name.
