

KWAK, Grace Eunhee Nah, age 72, went to be with her Lord after a long struggle with cancer. She will be missed tremendously by her family and friends. Grace passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012 in her home surrounded by her family. Grace was born on February 25, 1940 in Seoul, Korea. After completing a major in piano performance at Ewha Women’s University in Seoul and performing as a soloist with the Korean Broadcast Symphony and the Seoul National Symphony, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio to attend the Cleveland Institute of Music. She began teaching piano lessons in 1980 and continued teaching up to her last week of life. Grace was a member of the Beavercreek Piano Teachers Association (BPTA), and Ohio Music Teachers Association (OMTA) and served various officer positions and chairmanship of the BPTA. She was an active member of the Western District OMTA and served many staff positions including Chairperson (1998-2000). Grace was a nationally certified member of the OMTA, the Dayton Music Club, and the Delta Omicron Honor Society. She received the Teacher of the Year of the OMTA Western District in 2011. She was the chair for the auditions with the national Guild of Piano Teachers and was a judge for the guild auditions for many years. Grace was not only her name but described her life as a person of grace to all who knew her and met her. She was a woman of grace, had faith based on grace and gave grace to all she knew. She is survived by her husband John JS Kwak whom she married on November 27, 1965 in Cleveland, Ohio. She is survived by her three sons and their families including Joseph Kwak, his wife Kristina Kwak, MD and grandchildren Jacob, Tyler and Lauren; Jack Kwak, MD, his wife Linda Kwak, PsyD and grandchildren Hannah and Koen; James Kwak, JD and his wife Khema Kwak and grandchildren Kai and Keira; her sister Margaret Cho, her daughter Ahyoung Cho, and many nieces and nephews in Korea. A visitation will be held Sunday, March 4, 2012 at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME- BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road at Grange Hall Rd from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 5, 2012 at 12:30pm at Fairhaven Church 637 East Whipp Road, Centerville, OH 45459. Interment to follow at Beaver Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Delta Omicron- Grace Kwak Student Scholarship Fund, Beavercreek Piano Teachers Association- Grace Kwak Student Scholarship Fund, or Fairhaven Church, 637 East Whipp Road, Centerville, OH 45459. A special thanks to the staff from Hospice of Datyon who helped Grace and her family during her last few days with us.
