 I recently (January, 2015) reached out to Heather as a researcher working on an overlapping area and looking to see whether she would supply us with a reagent that she had in her lab. She responded very quickly, and through the few communications we had by email ensuring expedited delivery of the reagent, I could tell she was a very devoted and skilled researcher as well as an extremely kind and thoughtful person inside and outside the lab. It was very evident that Heather was the type of researcher any other person would be thrilled to work with, either as a trainee or a collaborator. I am still in shock after finding the obituary online as I was searching for some information for a form I need to fill out for reagents we are using at our institution. My thoughts and prayers extend to her husband, children, and anyone else who had the privilege of interacting with her.

Heather and I graduated high school together.  Seldom did you catch her without a smile on her face.  I do recall that she was warm and friendly with everyone that she encountered.  Though I had lost touch with her after we graduated, I always wondered what had happened to her.  It sounds as though she had accomplished many great things in her life.  I pray taht you all find peace and comfort during this time.

So sorry to hear about Heather. She was a couple years behind me in  high school. I didn't know her well but I remember we had the same lunch one year. I remember that even as a young girl she strived for excellence. From reading about her I see that she achieved it. My thoughts and prayers to her family. I was asked to pray for a mother who was fighting for her life and had no idea that it was Heather.

It was such a privilege to be able to work with Heather in her lab as a graduate student.  I am so honored to have learned all of my laboratory techniques from her.  She was a truly talented woman, mother and mentor.  My prayers go out to Dean, the girls and her whole family during this tragic time.  I hope that her dedication and passion for research lives on in those who worked with her.  She is greatly missed.

I went to grad school with Dean at KSU, and had the privilege of meeting Heather many times. She always kept in touch and I looked forward to their holiday card and picture of the girls each year. My heart breaks for Dean, the girls and Heather's friends and family. Much love and support to all of you.

Dr. Hostetler was a great professor. She was extremely caring and wanted all of us to succeed. My condolences to her family. Keeping them all in my thoughts. She will be missed.

I am so sad about Heather's death. As you know, Heather was a fighter, tough, sweet, hard-working, caring, observant, sharp, thoughtful, creative, whip-smart.... As a fellow clarinetist, she was fierce competition and a true leader of the pack! What a success and such a loss for the world!

I knew Heather was a special little girl and would do outstanding things with her knowledge when she was in kindergarten.  I am so saddened by her death and pray all of you are blessed with strength and sweet memories of her.

My first niece. I loved her very much and will always miss her. She was a great friend and I cherish all the time we had together in College Station. Condolences to everyone associated with her.
