BERKANT, Helen Lurlene Age 90 of San Antonio, Texas, more recently of Beavercreek, Ohio, passed away on September 27, 2022. She was born in Sayre, Oklahoma on January 7, 1932 to the late Thomas Theodore “T.T.” and Rhoda Altstatt. Helen is also preceded in death by her husband Daniel Berkant, an infant daughter, son Daniel Berkant II, siblings Josephine Duckworth, Eugene Altstatt, and Delores Doremus, and son-in-law Paul Davault. She is survived by her children Diana Davault, Brenda (Rick) Woolfolk, Ann (Daniel) Huber, and Janet (Todd) Anderson, 20 grandchildren; Daniel Berkant III, Stephen Berkant, Wendy Hollandsworth, Danielle Cavignac, Joshua Josey, Erin Johnson, Sandra Snell, Matthew Woolfolk, Christopher Woolfolk, Jeremy Huber, Daniella Liebold, Ashley Hoffar, Matthew Huber, Joseph Huber, Monica Huber, Nathaniel Huber, Nichole Huber, Christopher Alphin, Kenneth Alphin, and Marina Anderson, 32 great-grandchildren, sister Alice DePetris-Feucht, brother-in-law Guenter Feucht, brother Norman Doremus, sister-in-law Cathy Doremus, sister-in-law Viola Altstatt, and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen earned her bachelor degree in education and was a full-time substitute teacher in the San Antonio area. She was a member of the Republican Women’s Club and had been a volunteer at the Audie L. Murphy VA Medical Center in San Antonio. She was a life-long learner. She learned to swim at age 55 and speak Spanish at 70. She enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, and walking. Helen met Daniel at a USO dance and traveled the world to be with him. She always wanted to be a mother and her family was most dear to her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at St. Helen Catholic Church. Fr. Len Wenke celebrant. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 4 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Tobias Funeral Home – Beavercreek Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
