Hilda C. Lachey, age 97, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 16, 2018, at St. Leonard, a caring and loving Senior Living Community in Centerville, Ohio. She was born on December 15, 1920 in Ft. Loramie, Ohio, the daughter of Bernard and Rose Ruhenkamp, and the third of five children. Her parents, her brother, Henry, and sisters Anna Marie, Jeanette and Lucille preceded her in death. She married Francis J. Lachey on July 27, 1946, and together they had 11 children, Linda Hovell (C. Ronald Hovell/deceased), Gary Lachey, Beverly Steinbicker (Raymond J. Steinbicker/deceased), Michael Lachey (Barbara), Sharon Newill, Steven J. Lachey (Linda), Debra Shackelford (Gene), David Lachey (Trish), Rick Lachey, and Thomas Lachey (Christine), all surviving, and infant Ben, who died at birth. In addition, Hilda was a loving grandmother of 18 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Hilda's greatest love was her family. After Francis passed away suddenly in 1992, she filled her life with annual family trips to the Outer Banks, and every opportunity to celebrate a wedding, birthday, holiday, sporting event, or to hold the newest baby. Before moving to St. Leonard's, in keeping with her German heritage, she took great pride in keeping an immaculate home and landscape, and was a devoted fan of the Cincinnati Reds. She was a member of Incarnation Parish in Centerville, Ohio for 50 years. Our Mom was a fervent steward of the earth, and set a constant example by recycling and being conservative in all things. Visitation at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, OH 45429 on Sunday, April 22, from 3-5PM, and a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, April 23 at 10:30 AM at Incarnation Catholic Church, 7415 Far Hills Avenue, Centerville, OH 45459. The family would like to thank Dr. Barry Taylor, MD, for his many years of outstanding and compassionate care for our Mom, and for his guidance and counsel to our family in her later years. In addition, we thank the staff at St. Leonard's for the loving way they welcomed and cared so professionally and attentively for Mom during her residence there. Memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund of St. Leonard's, 8100 Clyo Rd., Centerville, OH 45458. Online condolences may be sent to: www.tobiasfuneralhome.com

Hilda Lachey was my neighbor in Vienna Park for 25 years. I called her my backyard neighbor since her house was behind mine. We went to lunch occasionally and it was evident in our conversations that she loved her family very much! She was a wonderful person and I think of her with great fondness! My sympathy to the Lachey family.

I was very sad to hear of Hilda’s passing when Derrick told me. Hilda warmly welcomed Derrick & me into the family and I always enjoyed being around her. I admired how she loved and lived life. She will be missed.
All of the family will be in my prayers.
