Inderjit (Indra) Sandhu Rajput was born on Oct 5, 1939, to Gurcharan Kaur Maan and Col. Bishan Singh Sandhu in Sargodha, Punjab, India. Indra became a resident of Dayton, Ohio in 1964 to continue her education at the University of Dayton. After a long bout with complex health issues, Indra passed away on Sunday, Nov 28, 2021.
She was one of the early members of the Asian Indian Community, who touched the hearts and lives of many people. Her contributions include:
Establishing the India Club of Greater Dayton on firm footing.
Teaching her “kiddos” Asian Indian culture through dances and celebrations of festivals at Sunday School.
Leading her own friend groups in preparing and presenting stage dances at festivities and weddings.
Her legacy not only continues through her daughter and grandchildren, but also through her Sunday School “kiddos”, who are now passing it on to their own children. She was loved by all, and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
She is preceded by her parents, Gurcharan Kaur Maan and Col. Bishan Singh Sandhu, and her Didi, Swaranjit Kaur Sandhu.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Yudh Vir Rajput, her daughter Saroj, her grandchildren Sarina, Armaan, Jahaan, Jaan and Shaan, her niece Mandeep and her son-in-law David, as well as several other loving family members and friends.
Funeral practices will be held on Sunday, Dec 5 from 1:30 – 3:30 pm at Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek OH 45432, followed by a short prayer and lungar (lunch) to be served at the Sikh Society of Dayton Gurudwara, 2320 Harshman Road, Dayton, Ohio 45424.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
