Dear Stevenson Families,  I was saddened to read of your father's/grandfather's passing and to not be able to express my condolences in person. Reading so many of the messages left for you only reinforced many of the memories that I had of him: his great smile, his wonderful dimples, his laugh, his psychology class, and his life lessons taught as "teachable moments" before that terminology was made popular. It was great to renew our acquaitance and to introduce him to my husband at Beerman's as we searched for a coat for him (Dan). The beautifully stated love and adoration he held for your mother/grandmother only served to reinforce the impression he always gave of his feelings regarding her. I have related several of his "stock" phrases to both my own children and my students---even though I worked with elementary students! I graduated from Wilbur Wright in 1974 and remember Mr. Stevenson so fondly. I loved his classes and his big, oh so big, booming laugh. He was a good man...he will be lovingly remembered.

I was in Mr. Stevensons senior homeroom class of 69. I just loved him! He was such a great inspiration to all students of Wilbur Wright High School. He had that great big smile, dimples and huge laugh. You are so lucky to have him as a father and grandfather, as were all of us to have him enter our lives as a teacher and mentor. He will not be forgotten by any he came in contact with. What a testament to his life!!

mr stevenson was one of my favorite teachers and my homeroom teacher 1964 he taught pschology and i remember one test he sprun on us that he sat at his desk with his smirk as most of us diligently went bungling ahead answering the test when the first line for those who read directions said put your pencil down you do not have to do this test he really teased us all later about it . am sad at his passing but am sure most students will always fondly remember him . condolences kathy olaner luthman wwhs class of 65

What an inspiring teacher! 49 years after Jack's class at WWHS, I still have fond memories of his effusive personality and his love of teaching which shone through him daily. He touched so many lives!

I went to WWHS but I never had Mr. Stevenson as a teacher.  But I will Always remember the big smile that he always had on his face.  I don't think I ever saw him that he wasn't smiling.  I am so Sorry for your loss as he seemed to be such a wonderful person.  WW class of 1975.

I just found out about the passing of Mr. Stevenson and am so sorry for your loss. He was my homeroom teacher at Wilbur Wright High School many many years ago and I remember him fondly.

Such a wonderful smile.  He might have made us Wilbur Wrighter's work in his class, but it was for our own good.  We are better adults for his great teaching.  I'm sorry you must continue on with your life, without him.  He's part of my collective high school memories.

My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Mr. Stevenson helped make my time at Wilbur Wright High School even more special. He was never without a smile and I count myself very fortunate to have had him as a mentor and teacher. When I went back to WWHS to do my student teaching (with a different teacher), Mr. Stevenson was there with words of encouragement. I still have the book he gave me, The Prophet by Kalil Gibran, with the special inscription inside. I pray your family will find peace and smiles in remembering special memories.

Not only was Mr. Stevenson a GREAT teacher, he had a GREAT personallity and then there was that BIG infectous smile.  You all can be proud of your Dad and Grand Father. While very nice, your dad's obituary does not really speak to what a great teacher he was. He was what every teenager wanted a teacher to be.  He was loved, liked and most definitely respected by his students at Wilbur Wright High School.  On behalf of my brother Doug Brown (San Francisco/WWHS 1963) and myself (WWHS 1967), we want to express our sincerest sympathy about your dad, and tell you he was one of our favorite teachers for all time.  He taught us Psychology and gave us an appreciation for the topic and the classroom.  He treated his students as adults and as a result we felt comfortable talking to him about what we felt to be adult issues.  He made learning fun and interesting.  Mr. Stevenson instilled in us a need to not disappoint him.  I know I speak for my brother and I, and I'm sure hundreds of Wilbur Wright High graduates, when I tell you that he will always be one of our favorites and will always be remembered with a smile and warm hearts.  He taught us psychology, but he wasn't afraid to teach us about life.  He was a fine man, a very memorable teacher, and I'm sure a great father.  In this time of sorrow, be reminded that many remember him with love and a smile.

Our hearts are sad at the passing away of Uncle Jack.  He will always be remembered as a man who deeply loved his family, friends and students.  He invested much in the lives of those who knew him and had an influence that will exceed the time he was here on earth with us.  He was such a warm hearted and loving person. Mr. Stevenson was an outstanding teacher and someone who had a very positive influence on my life direction. I am forever grateful to him.

As a former student, I think of 2 things when I remember Mr. Stevenson:  first, his booming laughter could be heard all over the 300 hall of Wilbur Wright; and second, when our Sr. class graduated he said, "May you always be as smart as you are on the day you finish high school".  That thought has haunted me for years.  So Sorry to lose such a great, insightful teacher.

There was just something about Mr. Stevenson's demeanor that made him such a super teacher, @ WWHS '72 psychology. Such a respected gentleman. Prayers & blessings to his entire family for your loss.

Mr. Stevenson's psychology class at Wilbur Wright were never dull.  Students looked forward to his class each day as he taught us important life lessons with new and ingenious methods.  

My condolences to his family- He was a larger than life man who will never be forgotten.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Stevenson's passing. He was one of my favorite teachers at Wilbur Wright (psychology, class of 1968). He was a great teacher and just a very nice person. He was very well-respected. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I will always cherish the memories I have of my time in Mr. Stevenson's history class.  He was a wonderful teacher and person.  I will remember him always.
