

James “Basil” Bentley, age 92, formerly of Dayton and originally from Woodstock, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. Born on June 10, 1934, Basil lived a life rooted in faith, family, hard work, and dedication to those he loved most. After retirement, he enjoyed spending his years at Norris Lake, where he found peace and happiness alongside family and friends.
Basil was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Patricia “Pat” Jane Bentley, who passed away on December 31, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Beecher Bentley; his sister, Wilda Cappleman; and great-grandson, Tyler Bentley.
He is survived by his five children: Gary (Pam) Bentley of Bellbrook, Ohio; Brenda (Joe) Beach of Centerville, Ohio; Debbie (Clarence) Jones of Norfolk, Virginia; Jim Bentley of Waynesville, Ohio; and Tom (Tracy) Bentley of Lebanon, Ohio. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Basil was a devoted member of Providence Church and shared a deep love for Jesus Christ and their family. Basil will be remembered for his strength, kindness, steady presence, and the deep love he had for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He treasured time spent with family, especially at the lake, where many lasting memories were made.
His legacy will continue through the family he cherished and the many lives he touched.
