

FRANTZ, James Gerald, Age 72 of Kettering, passed away January 23, 2016 at Hospice of Dayton after a one month battle with cancer. Jim was born August 17, 1943 in Versailles, Ohio and was a 1961 graduate of Versailles High School. In addition to his parents, Bernard and Marie (Naber), sister Ruth Ann, and sister-in-law Helen, he was preceded in death by his infant son Doug. He was also preceded in death by his faithful canine companion, Emmitt, 2 months prior to his death. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Carolyn (Wendeln) Frantz; daughter Cindy (Bill) Ryan of Beavercreek and son Brian (Debra) Frantz of Columbus; four grandchildren, Troy Frantz, Natalie, Addie, and Sophie Ryan. He is also survived by his twin sister, Judy (Richard) Phlipot of Florida, and brothers and sisters, Richard, Thomas (Evelyn), Virgil (Barbara), and Virginia (Mo) Moorman of Versailles, Bob (Betty) of Kansas, Bernie (Mary) of Greenville, and Susan (Paul) Ortwerth and Sarah (Julian) Schuetz of New Mexico. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was a brick-layer for over 40 years in the Dayton area. He was a talented, skilled man who was willing to help anyone in need. His projects can be found all over the Dayton area. He gave his time willingly always with a smile on his face. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was the primary babysitter for his granddaughters. He was an avid sports fan, and 40+ year season ticket holder for Dayton Flyers Men’s Basketball Team, an Ohio State Football fan and a member of the Browns Backers of Greater Dayton. If there was an organization to celebrate the Waffle House, he would have been the charter member. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend who will be incredibly missed. He was the best grandpa in the world and their biggest cheerleader. Family will receive friends from 4-8 PM on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Tobias Funeral Home, Far Hills Chapel. The family will receive friends from 9-10 AM at the Church of the Ascension, Kettering, followed by a mass at 10 AM on Saturday, January 30, 2016. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
