James C. Hardin Sr., beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025. Though he was proud of his long record of service—from his time in the United States Air Force during Vietnam, to his careers at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and later with the 88th Civil Engineer Squadron—James will be remembered most for his heart, his humor, and the way he showed up for the people he loved.
James dedicated his life to hard work and service, both in uniform and as a civilian heavy equipment operator. He had a quiet strength about him—steady, capable, and always ready to help without needing to be asked. Whether it was a big project or a small favor, he approached everything with the same determination and pride.
A lifelong member of VFW Post 8437, James found deep meaning in supporting fellow veterans. Serving as Post Commander for three years was one of the honors of his life, and he carried those friendships and responsibilities with the same loyalty he gave to everything else.
But beyond all his titles and accomplishments, James was simply a good man—strong-willed, quick-witted, and deeply devoted to his family. He loved being surrounded by the people who mattered most to him, and he never missed a chance to share a story, offer advice, or get in a joke at just the right moment. Those who knew him will forever remember his laugh, his stubborn charm, and the way he could make any place feel just a little more grounded.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Robert V. Hardin Sr. And Belva D. Hardin, and brothers, Robert V. Hardin Jr. And Jeffrey D. Hardin. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Hardin; children, Belva (Gary) Maria Rockwell, James (Juliene) Christopher Hardin Jr., and Michael James Hardin; stepson, Nick Roesch; grandchildren, Chad, Dylan, Rachel, James, Rebecca, and Tyler; step-grandchildren, Zoey, Julianna, and Cole; great-grandchildren, Rosie and Julia; and siblings, Kenneth E. Hardin and Dorothy J. Hardin.
A memorial visitation for James will be Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 11:30am to 1:00pm at Tobias Funeral Home in Beavercreek, followed by a service at 1:00pm and burial at the Dayton VA Cemetery.
