James Richard Neyhouse passed away on Monday, August 26th at the age of 70. Jim graduated from Fairmont East High School in 1972 where he was a renowned Dayton-area baseball player. He later graduated from Wright State University with a degree in sociology. He briefly took a career as a teacher before transitioning into the growing area of computer programming. At 28, he joined NCR and went on to spend 34 years working in ATM software. He spent the last decade (his self-declared “swan song”) working for QSI, Inc. on interactive teller machines, leveraging his lifetime of experience with ATMs to continue improving the industry.
Jim met his wife, Vicky, in 1985. He was instantly smitten, and loved her more than anything. They would be married two years later. Of all his accomplishments, Jim was proudest of their three sons, Arend, Jimmy, and Bertrand. He was a devoted and loving father; he never missed a game or musical performance, and coached their softball, football, and basketball teams for over 15 years. He could always be found with a hat representing one of their colleges or universities, always sharing in their accomplishments wherever, with whomever, and whenever he could.
Outside of his work and family, Jim loved playing golf at the NCR Country Club, bowling at Poelking Woodman Lanes, riding his motorcycle, and driving his ’79 Corvette. He had a love for bridge and any other card game you could put in front of him. Jim loved cinema and was especially fond of the western. Friends would revel in his bone-dry, witty humor. It was the flavor of humor where you might not catch the punch line until days later. Above all, he will be remembered for his deep unconditional love and sincere kindness. He will be missed dearly.
Jim is survived by his wife, Vicky; three sons, Arend (Simonne), Jimmy (Ashley), and Bertrand (Hannah); granddaughter, Cecelia; three siblings, Barbara, Dottie (Tom), and Mike (Rosie); and countless friends and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jeanne and George.
A viewing will be held at Tobias Funeral Home- Belmont Chapel (648 Watervliet Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420) on Friday, August 30th from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm . Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. If attending, please feel free to dress comfortably for the warm weather. In remembrance of Jim Neyhouse, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to your favorite local charitable organization.
