Dear Paxson Family,
I met Jim at Bethany while visiting my Mother. Liked him immediately. Found out he was from the famous bball family. Being a bball guy and a fan I knew the names. Jim called me the third baseman and I called him hoops. What a delightful human being he was. I'm a stranger to your family but I loved him, too.
He always had a smile on his face a and quick comment. Mom passed in July and I haven't been back to Bethany as often as before, so I missed Jim's passing. What a good guy!

Sympathy and prayers to the Paxson family. Mr. Paxson invited me to John's Notre Dame game being played in Providence, RI, where I was a college student, on the road to the final four in the early '80's. I remember sitting next to an intensely focused man who nonetheless kindly answered all my likely dumb questions about the game that day. While I did forget who Notre Dame played or even if they won (sorry John), I will not forget his quiet kindness in answering my questions. May he rest in peace.

May God watch over your father.  It was 2 years since my father passed.  Both great men in many ways.  They taught us how to treat others with a kind heart and big smile. I remember all the trips he made to watch your games at ND John.  Fun laughs after the games when he would get us a bite to eat and then head back to Kettering.

To the Paxson family,  I worked with Jim's mother, Mary Paxson when Jim had just entered UD.  She was so proud of him and we were proud of him too, simply because of Mary.  He would come in to see his Mom and all of us found a reason to stop in and see Jim.  I know that he was a good son and obviously a fine man,  My condolences to the family.  Kathy Ryan

Your dad was a true friend to my parents for many years, particularly my dad, Brendan O'Leary, during his final days which were spent in an assisted living home. Jim was a constant visitor and delivered a touching eulogy at his funeral Mass. May the many warm memories of Jim provide comfort and peace at this difficult time.

Paxson Family sorry to read of the loss of James{Jim} growing up in the UD Area of course the Paxson name is known.  Sorry I never met the man but I know he and his sons are/were Great Players!

My prayers, thoughts, and sincere condolences go out to the entire Paxson Family. James was a wonderful man and it was always a pleasure to be with him when I had the opportunity. I am so sorry for your loss.

Jim was such a very nice man.  We will miss him and his wit at the Catholic Central 1950 class luncheons.  We enjoyed his company so much.  May he rest in peace.  My deepest sympathy to his family.

Dear Paxson's:
I met Jim at Bethany about 6-8 months ago. He was sitting waiting for a ride outside Vista Place. I'm friendly / he was friendly.. we started up a conversation. Who are you? I'm Ken Boyer. Jim says "the third baseman?" I say no. Who are you? I ask. He says Jim Paxson. I say the basketball player? He says yes. Now I'm not originally from Dayton. I played one year for Miami -tore a meniscus, out for the count. But I knew the names, Jim Paxson and John Paxson, too. They were my people-basketball guys. So, I look at this big, old guy and I say you're not Jim Paxson. He says he is and that's when we got to know each other ...what a great guy!  I'd visit dear old Mom in the tower -Polly Boyer, age 94 -and there would be big, old Jim sitting and waiting for a ride and happy to talk to the "third baseman". He was a delightful man. I understood from my wife of  10 years that she and her family lived near the Paxson's when she was growing up in Kettering. Her maiden name was Hall, Claudia Hall - father Harold Hall(recently deceased) - mother Oneita Hall - brother Steve who played a bit of roundball for KHS ...Well, Claudia knew the Paxson's and liked them. After getting to know the Paxson's family Patriarch, I see why. May Jim rest in peace and meet more basketballers up there in heaven.
