

Janet Ahlers Daum, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on May 2, 2016 in Dayton, Ohio.Janet was born on January 26, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Edward and Amelia Ahlers. She was a graduate of Western Hills High School and spent her summer days at Crosley Field as a “groupie” of the Cincinnati Reds. During an unforgettable game, this life- long Reds’ fan met her future husband, Norman H. Daum of Dayton, OH. The couple married in October of 1943, set up housekeeping in Dayton, and raised their family in the Belmont area. They were married for 47 years. Janet worked as an admissions representative at Miami Valley Hospital for 20 years, and after retiring she became a volunteer at Belmont United Methodist Church. In recent years, she moved into an apartment at 10 Wilmington Place, and became active in her retirement community. She was named Volunteer of the Year in 2009. Janet will be dearly missed by sons and daughter in law, Larry and Patricia Daum of Palm City, FL, and Alan Daum and fiancée Loretta Powell of Hillard, OH. Memories of her will be cherished by grandchildren Terry and Elizabeth Daum of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Eric and Liesl Daum of Gilbert, AZ; Stacia and Brandon Burd of St. Louis, MO; and great grandchildren Melissa, Sydney, Jonathan, Daphne and Gavin. She is also survived by her niece and nephew, Judy and Don Keasel; cousins, Ada Vincent Morrison and Linda Vincent Evans; and Loretta’s children, Madeleine and Robert Powell. She was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Edgar Albrecht; husband, Norman Daum; daughter, Beverly Daum; granddaughter Kimberly Daum; and cousin Ada Ahlers Vincent. Funeral services will be held 1pm on Saturday, May 7, 2016 in the chapel of Woodland Cemetery Mausoleum. 118 Woodland Ave Dayton, OH 45409.
