HELLWIG, Jean O., age 88, passed away Saturday, April 19 at Walnut Creek Nursing Center. Jean was born January 11, 1926 in Brooksville, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents Albert & Stella Moreland and her sons Ronald M. & George P. Jr. Jean is survived by husband of 64 years, George P. Hellwig Sr. and constant companion, their dog, Porter. Jean is survived by daughter Paula Barrows & husband Bill; son Jim Hellwig & wife Rita; grandson George A. Hellwig; granddaughter Veronica Kannan & husband Geoffrey; granddaughter Crystal Hellwig and sister-in-law Anna Ferguson. Jean was a cook extraordinaire and a kind, generous woman who loved helping others. Jean was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Brownie Leader, Concession Stand Mom, News Paper Branch Manager and anything else she could involve herself in while her kids were growing up. Early in her career, Jean worked as a nurse/aide in oncology at Dayton Children’s Medical Center, then worked and retired from Elder Beerman in retail sales. After retirement and being the people-person she was, Jean decided to work at MCL Cafeteria where she made many friends, and as usual, helped others! Special thanks to Walnut Creek Nursing Center and caregivers Juanita CaraLee, Robin, Kristine, Sasha, Tara and Jean’s dear roommate Bonnie Rucker and to Hospice of Dayton. Jean was member of Hope Lutheran and in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church 500 Hickory St, Dayton, OH 45410 or Hospice of Dayton 324 Wilmington, OH 45420. Visitation will be Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 5pm until 7pm at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME, 648 Watervliet Ave, Dayton, OH 45420. At 7pm there will be the funeral service.
