

John R. Cox Jr., 56, passed away unexpectedly at home on September 23. He is proceeded in death by his father, John Cox Sr.; his father-in-law, Keith Hogue; special aunt, Mary (Meanie) DeLong; and special uncle, Ike DeLong. John is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lori (Hogue) Cox; his daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Matt Jones; his son, Michael Cox; and three grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Tyler, Lily, and Parker Jones. He is also survived by his mom, Patti (DeLong) Cox; mother-in-law, Bev Hogue; sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Scott Miller; sister-in-law, Leslie Hogue; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Brian and Suzie Hogue; his special aunt Diana Ransdell and her daughter Angie Ransdell; his nieces, Krysten (Don) Smith and Kelsey Hogue; his nephews Brandon Hogue, Christopher Miller, Matthew Miller, and Charlie Hogue; as well as numerous other family and friends.
John loved his position at Dayton Children’s Hospital in the IT Department. He spoke fondly of the employees at Children’s and those at his home company, Tech-Optics. John served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Dayton Door Sales and Airtron before discovering his passion for IT. He worked at Pomeroy prior to his time at Dayton Children’s.
John graduated from Vandalia Butler High School, ITT Technical Institute, Miami Jacobs, and the McGregor School of Antioch University. John loved spending time with his family, Disney Cruising, and vacationing with his family in Canada. He loved to fish, watch his Browns and Buckeyes play, and do anything involving spending time with his family. John loved taking pictures to capture those special family moments. John also loved cooking and baking. John was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, son, brother, uncle, and man who was taken way too soon. He will be forever in our hearts and we will miss him every day.
A gathering of family and friends with face masks requested for John will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio.
