After graduating from Waynesville High School, Jack served his country in the Navy during World War II. He went on to graduate from The Ohio State University in 1949 with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. He worked for many years as a technical writer for Dayton Tech Art before starting his own company, Technical Communications Co., from which he retired in 1994.
Jack was immersed in the life of St. George’s Episcopal Church until he could physically no longer attend, and he recently celebrated his 58th year of sobriety as a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and building and fixing things. He liked to read, C.S. Lewis being his favorite author, and he dearly loved rooting for his Ohio State Buckeyes.
Jack was blessed with a loving family. He married Virginia Ann “Ginny” Green on April 6, 1956, falling just shy of celebrating 66 years of marriage together. Jack and Ginny have been a model of prioritizing faith, family, hard work and responsibility to their three children, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Barbara Crosthwait and Nancy Brooks. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, sons Douglas and Eric Crane, daughter Sue Crane, grandchildren Erika, Amy, Alyssa, Emily, Austin, Nicole, Marie, Michelle, and Nadia, and great-grandchildren Avery, Christian, Knox, John, Hunter, Sofia, Ethan, and Joanna.
A memorial service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, April 23rd at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to St. George’s Episcopal Church or Hospice of Dayton.
