John A. Dunn Jr. passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026. Reunited with his beloved wife of 62 happy, grace-filled years, Betty Sue Dunn. He is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Betty, as well as his parents Nora Louvada Lewis and John A. Dunn Sr.; his sisters, Opal, Okie, Geraldine, and Betty; and brother Billy.
John is survived by his loving daughters, Nora (Tim) Shockey and Sheri (Joe) Oldham; his grandchildren, Trevor (Megan) Shockey, Trent (Anastasia) Oldham, David Shockey, and Sarah Oldham; and his great-granddaughters, Quinn and Holland Shockey; his sisters Patsene, Catherine; and his brother Phil.
John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. During his time in the military, John was stationed in South Carolina, France, and Africa. He served as Crew Chief for the F-84, F-101, and the RF-101 Voodoo aircraft. Following his military service, he went on to build a dedicated career at General Motors, retiring after more than 25+ years of faithful service. A true tradesman and entrepreneur at heart, John also owned and operated his own heating, air conditioning, and electrical business.
A master craftsman and problem solver, John was legendary for his skill and ingenuity. There was truly nothing he couldn't fix—whether it was a complex automotive repair or a tricky plumbing issue. In his free time, he found immense joy in fishing, working on cars, and building his collection of model trains and airplanes. He was in “The Road Knights Club” where he worked at Kil-Kare raceway and raced a 1969 Hurst Oldsmobile.
Above all, John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He lived a life marked by hard work, service, and deep dedication to his family. His presence, wisdom, and remarkable ability to fix anything will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
