John J. ”Pops” Highley, age 88 of Beavercreek, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Eva Irene Highley, in 2007. He was also preceded by his parents, Ernest and Anna Highley, two sisters: Virgie Decker and Gertrude Potts and a brother, Robert Highley. He is survived by a son, John “Russ” Highley and wife Marie Highley of Bellbrook and a grandson, Shane Highley of Kettering. Four sisters also survive him: Margie, Beatrice, Faye and Jesse. John was a US Army Veteran of WWII, serving from 1942-1945 in the European Theatre. He was a truck driver and member of the Teamsters Union for more than 30 years prior to his retirement. He was also employed at the Cork and Bottle and was a member of VFW Post 8312. Friends may call at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. at Grange Hall Rd. on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 11 AM until 1 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 10 at 1 PM with Reverend Bev Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in Miami Valley Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Hospice of Dayton or The Alzheimer’s Association in John’s memory.
