Joyce Templeton was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, but grew up in Dayton. She felt she had a good childhood and parents. She remembered going to the corner pub with her father to watch the black and white television, going to the movie theater weekly, and often visiting with family. During World War II, with her sister and friends, they pulled a wagon through the neighborhood collecting grease for the war effort.
In her first job as a salesclerk, she earned 75 cents an hour which was minimum wage. She moved to Fairborn in 1967. Most of her life she was a stay-at-home mother, raising seven children and later loving on her grandchildren. She enjoyed time with family and friends, playing boardgames and cards, genealogy, cats and ferrets, and traveling with her best friend, Lena Caudill (who passed away).
She was an active community volunteer especially in Boy and Girl Scouting. She received the Buckeye Trails Award from Girl Scouting and later became a lifetime Girl Scout member.
She was fascinated with space travel. The first man to walk on the moon, Neal Armstrong, was also from Wapakoneta, Ohio.
Faith was extremely important in her life. Her favorite prayer was the Lord's Prayer. She was active in her church as a Sunday School Teacher and in later years in fellowship and congregational care activities with Peace Lutheran Church in Beavercreek. She enjoyed each visit from pastors and ministers of all faiths.
With a caretaker personality, she took care of her mother for many years as well as an uncle and a dear friend. She was well known for great holiday celebrations with family (which could be upwards to 30+ people), and sending greeting cards and newspaper clippings to family, friends, and church members.
She was always surrounded by family in person, correspondence, and by phone. In her last years, she was blessed to be surrounded by family daily, visiting friends, the care of Hospice 360, Assisted Living staff, her church, and her faith. In her final days a cross appeared on her cheek which the family saw as God marking her for her upcoming journey in peace and eternal love.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Franklin Templeton, two sons: Donald Larry and Charles Templeton; her parents and sister; and dear friends.
She is survived by three daughters: Kathy, Cindy, and Susan (James); two sons: Jim (Lena) and Don Lee (Jennifer), two daughters-in-law: Bonnie and Deb; Cindy Cushing whom she loved as a daughter; twelve grandchildren: Bryan (Lisa), Marci (Ron), Sean T., Jason, John, Sean R. (Elizabeth), Jessica (Rob), Natasha (Josh), Sarah, Seth (Kasey), Carissa (Gabe), and Perry; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio, on April 17, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral Service at Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio, on April 17, 2026, at 11:00 am.
