Kathy was born on June 21, 1966 to Edward “Jerry” and Anne Bereda in Dayton, OH. After graduating from Carroll High School in 1984, she went on to pursue a degree in Computer Science at the University of Dayton- of which, she was a very proud alum and even prouder that her first daughter was also an alum.
In the summer of 1990, Kathy met her future husband, David, while working at her first job as a computer programmer at CSC. They went on to marry in September 1996 and have two children, Emma in 1998 and Sarah in 2000.
Kathy was fiercely dedicated to her family, her children, her friends, and her community. She was a co-chair of the St. Helen’s beer booth for many years, running it with her parents and brothers. Once her children started to be involved in activities and sports, Kathy was always one of the first to raise her hand to volunteer and offer whatever help she could. She acted as the “Cookie Mom” for both girls’ Girl Scouts troops for multiple years. For Sarah, Kathy was the “unofficial” team mom of her softball teams while David coached, a volunteer at numerous events for swim team, and even passed on her love of art to Sarah, who has gone on to pursue a degree in design. For Emma, Kathy was heavily involved in the Irish dance world. She was the Awards Chairperson for the Gem City and Lindsay Marie Memorial Feises and the Baked Goods Chair and caterer organizer for the annual recital, continuing to step up for these events and more even after Emma left for college. She went on to co-chair the Beer Committee at Dayton Celtic Festival with a dear friend for several years after being involved with the dance school. Kathy never passed up an opportunity to join her husband in trying out a new restaurant or going to a sporting event either here in Dayton, at a Dragons or Flyers game, or in Cincinnati, at a Bengals or Reds game, or to Columbus to catch the occasional Blue Jackets or Ohio State football game. They enjoyed countless adult-only and family vacations together all over the country which were never without laughter and numerous “mommy” breaks along the way.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Jerry; her father-in-law, Paul Coning; her cherished aunt, Ruth Beard; and numerous other beloved aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband, David; her daughters, Emma and Sarah; her mother, Anne; her brothers, James (Sherrie), Michael (Maureen), and Christopher (Donna); her sister-in-law, Diane (Garry) Crowe; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Tobias Funeral Home in Beavercreek on Thursday August 18 from 5-8pm and the funeral will be Friday August 19 at 2pm with Father Len Wenke officiating.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery immediately after the service.
