Age 93, passed away Thursday July 31, 2014 at Miami Valley Hospital. Born in Dayton in 1921 and graduated from Oakwood High School in 1939 and the University of Dayton in 1943. Served in the U.S. Army as 2nd Lieutenant, receiving the Victory Medal, Germany Occupation Medal, and the European Service Medal. More important than the medals, Ken met his future wife Agnes in Reims, France. Upon their return home from Europe in WWII, Ken and his brother David built Israel Builders Supply, and contributed much to the growth of the Dayton region in the post-war era. He was active in the Dayton Home Builders Association and especially enjoyed numerous friends, travel and tennis. He was an active member of the Church of the Holy Angels and St. Henry's parish. Preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Agnes, daughter, Carol, mother and father, David and Bessie L. Israel (Conner), brother, David, and sister, Betty. Survived by children, Kenneth Israel Jr. (Cathy), Bonnie Israel, Janet Borst (Mike), Mary Beth Neal (Tom). Grandchildren include Ken Kennard (Brandi); Rick Miller; Sarah, Miriam, Michael, and Joel Moore; Alexandra Israel (Andrew Zimmerman); Brian and David Borst; and Michael (Kristin) Neal. Great-grandchildren, Max and Amelia Kennard. A celebration of his life, the funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Holy Angels 1322 Brown Street Dayton, Ohio 45409, Tuesday August 5, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Thomas Shearer officiating. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Friends are invited to greet each other and family beginning at 9:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at Holy Angels.
