Kenneth H. McCoin

Ken will be remembered as a curious and intelligent student with a keen interest in mathematics and technology—passions that led to a lifelong career in engineering. He deeply valued his education at the University of Akron and often shared stories from his many years working on important projects at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

An avid sports fan, Ken almost never missed a Cleveland Browns football game. He was a generous host who loved good food and enjoyed sharing a good joke or clever pun with family and friends.

Ken was the only child of Cecil “Mac” McCoin and Katherine (Fretter) McCoin. With love and devotion, he cared for his parents throughout their later years. He was also a beloved member of his extended family, including his uncle Albert and Charlotte (Fretter) Miller, as well as their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were Ken’s cousins and extended family.

Ken is survived by David Schiopota and his wife, Janet Schiopota; their two daughters; his friend David Cates; and his good friend and caregiver, Renee Scott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil “Mac” McCoin and Katherine (Fretter) McCoin, and his cousins Lyne Carol Schiopota and Karen Marlene Chabers.

Kenneth Harlan McCoin will be remembered for his intelligence, generosity, humor, devotion to family, and the warmth he shared with those around him.
