Kermit Harding Pratt
November 30, 1936 – September 6, 2021
Kermit Harding Pratt was taken to heaven by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 6, 2021. He is survived by his daughter Sandy with son-in-law Brad Hayward, and granddaughters Natalie and Rachel Hayward. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ozella (Campbell) Pratt, daughter Stefanie Pratt, parents Mabel and Ted Justice, and siblings Rodney Pratt and Don Pratt.
Kermit was born in Hardburly, Perry County, Kentucky on November 30, 1936 to Arnold and Mabel (Haney) Pratt. He moved to Dayton, Ohio as a pre-teen and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He served in the US Air Force from 1955-1959 as a radio operator on a C- 124 Globemaster aircraft. He married Ozella Campbell on Feb 28, 1959. After a few years working in Dayton, Ohio, he attended Air Traffic Control school. After completion in 1963, he and Ozella moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where their daughter Stefanie was born. They relocated to Speedway, Indiana, where he worked as an air-traffic controller for almost 20 years.
Kermit was a phenomenal husband and father. His love for his wife and family was shown in many ways. He built many things and had a side business as a handy man. He loved to travel and treated the family to many lovely vacations. Several trips out west, waterskiing, and a houseboat vacation on Lake Cumberland were a few examples. His hobbies included fishing, boating, golf, and University of Kentucky basketball. He also loved books and classic movies. He was confident, witty, and liked to tell stories. He knew how to do almost anything, and if he didn’t know how to do it, he would try anyway.
While living in Speedway, Kermit decided to accept God’s gift of eternal life and gave his life to following Jesus Christ. He became active in serving others through his local church and leading his family in God’s path. He was a member of Washington Heights Baptist Church from 1985 to the present.
A Celebration of Kermit’s and Ozella’s Lives will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2021 at Washington Heights Baptist church, 5650 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45429.
