Kevin Jay Wagner, 66, of Xenia, Ohio, passed away at home on June 17, 2026, with his daughter, Maggie, at his side following a two-year battle with Stage IV lung cancer. Kevin was born on August 29, 1959, to parents Louis and Carol (Murphy) Wagner in Celina, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister, Cyndi Conte, and his brother-in-law, Dave Muhleman.
He is survived by his loving children: Calvin (Joellen Boicourt) Wagner of Huber Heights, Maggie Wagner of Xenia, and Angela (Jason) Ahrns of Fort Loramie, as well as his first grandchild, due in November. Also surviving are his siblings: Larry (Chris) Wagner of Cleveland, Greg (Jaqui) Wagner of Luttrell, Tennessee, Darla Muhleman of Liberty Township, Kim (Ted) Rolf of Troy, and Jamie (Gillian) Wagner of Troy, as well as brother-in-law, Mike Conte of Marion, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tad and Liz Urquhart of Simi Valley, California, and a great many nieces and nephews.
Kevin was a 1977 graduate of Troy High School. In 2023, he retired from Dayton Power & Light after 30 years of service. Throughout his career, he worked long hours, responded to emergencies and power outages, and continually sought additional training to better serve his community and support his family. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Brigid Parish in Xenia. Kevin lived a life centered on service to others. A member of St. Brigid Catholic Church in Xenia for nearly four decades, he volunteered at the St. Brigid Festival and served with St. Vincent de Paul, helping families in need. He also gave generously of his time as a volunteer at the Greene County Fair. His quiet acts of service reflected the faith that guided his life. Kevin enjoyed a life-long hobby of CB radio, and he loved to listen to music. He also loved cutting the grass, taking care of his truck, and the sweet and sour soup at China Cottage.
Most important to Kevin was his faith and his family, especially his three children. Some of his children’s favorite memories with him include the 13 summers he spent taking them to Spring Valley softball practices and games (especially his whistling) and always playing catch outside after work, singing together at Mass, going to see Blue Jacket every summer until it closed and then driving to Chillicothe for Tecumseh after that, his locust shell collection, his uncanny mourning dove call, playing the Harry Potter Diagon Alley board game (especially the one and only time he won), and when he would let them get up at the crack of dawn and go to the laundromat with him Saturday mornings when they were little where he would always win them prizes from the crane game. He will be remembered by his children as a loving and supportive father who sacrificed for many years to give them a better life, and by friends and family alike as a humble, good-natured, and generous man.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Xenia on Tuesday, June 30th at 10:30am, with burial to follow immediately at St. Brigid Cemetery. A luncheon will be held afterwards at the St. Brigid Parish Activity Center. All are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider having Masses said at St. Brigid or at any Catholic Church for the repose of his soul or making a donation to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
