

Lamar "Dale" Springer was born to parents, Emett and Lola Harper Springer, in Wellston, Ohio on April 20, 1926. Dale served in the United States Navy from 1944 - 1946 as an electronic technicians mate 3/C. Dale graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1949. He began his career at National Cash Register as an electronic research engineer. In 1957, he became senior electronics engineer at United Shoe Machinery Corporation. He took a position as program manager at Data Corporation in 1960. Then, in 1967, Dale teamed up with a group of engineers and an attorney/long-time friend, Donald Compton, to start Dayton Scientific Incorporated. For 36 years, Dale was president of DSI and held 5 patents. During his life, Dale was involved in many organizations and recieved many awards and recognitions. Memberships included: Member of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers; Member of Armed Forced Communications; Member of the Society of Automotive Engineers; Member of the Thomas Ewing Society and a Director on the Ohio University Association Board of Directors from 1975 - 1978; Member of the Ohio University Foundation; Emeriti Trustees; Officer of the Ohio University Dayton Alumni Chapter; Member of the Industrial Engineering Advisory Board. Awards Included: Ohio University Distinguished Service Award - 1985; Ohio University Medal of Merit - 1986; Ohio University Alumnus of the Year - 1995; Russ College Academy of Distinguished Graduates - 2004. Dale is preceded in death by his father, Emett Springer; mother, Lola Harper Springer; brother, Paul Springer.
Dale is survived by his wife of 62 years, Harriette McClure Springer; Daughter, Janet Becker; Sons Larry and Dana Springer; Son-in-law, Mike Becker; Daughter-in-law, Kimberly Springer; Grandchildren Britney Shelton (Springer), Shawn Denham, Hope Hoekstra (Denham), and Jaimie Denham; Great granchild Brayden; Numerous nieces and nephews, friends and family of Ohio University. The family will receive friends at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Avenue at Rahn Road, Sunday, March 17, 2013 from 2 to 5 pm.
