

M. Lucille O’Connor, 92, passed away December 22 , 2020, due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease. Born August 11, 1928, to Ivah and Phillip Hamilton, in Chrisman Illinois. She was the youngest of eleven children. A “depression baby”, learning the value of hard work at an early age. She graduated from high school at age 16, after attending Detroit High School of Commerce. Following her graduation in 1945, she took the Civil service exam and was offered a secretarial position to an officer at WPAFB. She remained in the Dayton area for next 75 years, working in the secretarial and accounting field until she was in her early 80s. She developed a love for ballroom dancing at an early age and spent Saturday nights enjoying her love of dancing until her health would no longer permit it. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her 10 siblings and her former late husband, Edward Cole. She is survived by her cherished husband and love of her life, Donald O’Connor. Also, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Paul and Teresa OBrien and granddaughter and her husband, Zack and Kendra Brownfield, and her great grandson, Zane Brownfield. Also, she was blessed with 11 step children, 28 step grandchildren and 41 step great grandchildren who also survive her. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family, putting everyone’s needs above everything else. In addition to her love of dancing, she also treasured the memories of the time she spent on the Gulf coast of Florida for many years during the winter months. A child of God, she became a member of the Catholic Church as an adult and was a member of St. Henry Church until the time of her death. A mass to celebrate her life will be held at St Mary of the Assumption Church on December 28, 2020 at 11:00 am, Father J. Manning officiating. There will be a visitation 1 hour prior to the mass at 10:00 am in the gathering space at the church. Masks and social distancing required. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Debt Reduction fund at St. Mary of the Assumption Church.The family would also like to thank the Hospice of Dayton for the wonderful care that Lucille received over the past 2 years. A special thank you to Julie Thacker,R.N., and caregivers Christine, Rocki, Shawni and Ty for all of the love and support they provided during her illness. Mom, you are so loved and your precious memory will forever remain in our hearts. We are comforted knowing you are now free to dance among the stars.
