KOERNER, Marie Emma, died peacefully with family present on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Sycamore Health Center at age 94 years, 9 months. She successfully battled numerous ailments over the years even managing to live independently until age 93 in her Kettering home of 50 years. She was born December 23, 1920 to Herman Graman(n), a German-Swiss immigrant, and Emma Schulke Graman. She grew up in the Wayne Ave hill/South Park neighborhood attending Lincoln Elementary and Parker High School. She married Owen Koerner in 1940 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and started a family. Her working career included the Sunshine Biscuit Company, Patterson Field during WWII, Gallagher Drug Stores, and office manager at the Duriron Company and Giele & Pflaum Printing. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Owen (2006) after 66 years of marriage, brothers Roy (Delia) Burger and Robert (Elizabeth) Graman, and sister Margarethe (Elliott) Stroup. She is survived by son John (Barbara) Koerner, daughter Nancy (Paul) McDonald, six grandchildren: Pam (Steve) Wrobel, Scott (Traci) McDonald, Kathy (Byron) McCrabb, Jennifer (Jeremy) Cauchi, Julie (Bart) Wagner, and Andrew Koerner; 10 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces. Although Mom grew up in a broken home, she developed a sense of order that characterized every facet of her life - proper attire, the cleanest house, the most beautiful yard (won Kettering's Neighborhood Pride Award several times), and a dedication to doing what was expected. She loved antiquing, finding treasures at flea markets, and utilized her amazing green thumb to fill her house and yard with flowers. She enjoyed playing cards and attending events at the Eintracht and Dayton Liederkranz German clubs. She was a friend to animals and never forgot to feed the birds. Most of all, Mom cherished her growing family with unconditional love, relentless concern, and an eager anticipation for any family milestones or events. We already miss her greatly, but take solace in her faith and the knowledge that she has entered God's kingdom. Auf Wiedersehen, Mutti. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015 at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME – FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2015 at Holy Trinity Church, 272 Bainbridge St., Dayton. Interment will follow at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Montgomery County or the Audubon Society. Condolences may be sent to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com
