After a long and beautiful life, Mark Joseph Thullen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24th, 2026, at the age of 77, in Beavercreek, Ohio. Mark was born March 16th, 1949, to his late parents John and Mary Thullen, in Detroit, Michigan. Mark was the eldest of eight children. He is survived by Leslie, Michael (Esther), David, Diane, Joseph (Leta), Christopher, and reunited in spirit with his sister Vivian.
Mark’s greatest joy was his family. Mark leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Diane, and his children, Stephen (Heather) Thullen, Christine (Joseph) Hampton, and Nicholas (Sarah) Thullen. He will be missed by his 5 grandchildren, Max (Madeline) Thullen, Carson and Connor Hampton, Avery and Brady Thullen, and his great grandson, Cooper Thullen.
From childhood, Mark embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm. He served as an altar boy, loved sports, taught himself guitar, and even enjoyed riding a motorcycle. He attended the University of Detroit, working at Dean’s drugstore to put himself through school. He often shared stories of delivering orders to record label parties. His co-op in Rome, New York, marked the beginning of a distinguished 48-year career in electrical engineering, serving Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, TRW, and Northrop Grumman. His work took him across the country and around the world, earning him deep respect as an expert in his field.
Mark’s brilliance extended far beyond his career. He was a loving and steadfast husband, father, and grandfather, present for every game, recital, and competition. His sharp mind, love of reading, skill at Pinochle and Euchre, and passion for model trains became beloved parts of family lore. And every holiday season, his dedication to creating magical lighting displays brought joy not only to his family, but to everyone who passed by.
Mark is fondly remembered by his siblings-in-law, who played a significant role in his life, sharing many joyful moments with him. He will be missed by Gregory Wisniewski, Carol (Mike) Dye, Linda Wisniewski, Pamela Wisniewski, Janice (Jeff) Harrison, Mark (Stacy) Wisniewski, David (Martha) Wisniewski, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Ascension Catholic Church, Monday July 6th, 2026, at 10:00am, followed by a service at 11:00am
