Martin was born in Springfield OH on 1 June 1940, the son of Martin and Hortense Spahr who preceded him in death. He was a proud Army veteran that served during the Vietnam war – he wore his hat proudly.
Martin {Marty} earned a bachelors degree in business at Wittenburg University in Springfield OH. He was extremely proud of the 31 years supporting his country as a Department of Defense civilian employee. He retired from Wright Patterson AFB as a supervisory contract specialist in 1995.
Marty is survived by his loving wife, Terri, of 36 years. He also is survived by his sister, Martha Castle of Piqua OH, daughter Angela Kaffenbarger, sons Don (Sara), David, daughters Amy (Steven) Lucas, and Karen (Eric) Thomas. Grandchildren Ethan Kaffenbarger, Ethan (Laura) Spahr, Evan (Jaclynn)Spahr, Halle (Ben) Malhotra, Natasha (Leighton) Adair and 5 great grandchildren.
Marty was well known for his infectious smile, high 5’s, positive attitude, encouraging words and kind heart. He was always ready to lend a hand even if it meant getting his hands dirty. He loved travelling (visited all 51 states, Canada and the Caribbean), he was an avid book reader - especially books about historical sites and visited civil war sites and plantations. He treasured his family and friends, celebrating birthdays, dreaming up competitive games to play with the grandchildren- of course there were prizes, long walks in the park and on the beach, going to the Cincinnati Reds games with his best friends, country music and going to the Grand Ole Opry. He left some of his thoughts in a folder for his wife and expressed that he felt he had lived a wonderful life receiving family love and support and was very thankful.
Marty passed peacefully with his family and friends around him after a long illness.
