HECKMAN, Mary Lou (Becker), age 79 of Kettering, OH passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on Monday, January 14, 2013 at Lincoln Park Manor. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Paul J. Heckman in 1990. Also preceding her were parents Louis P. and Mary Kae Becker and brother Robert E. Becker. Mary Lou was born the middle child of Louis and Mary Kae in Dayton, OH on December 23, 1933. She attended Holy Family Elementary School and graduated from Julienne High School in 1952. She enrolled at the University of Dayton in the fall of 1952 studying Elementary Education and completed two years of schooling. After meeting Paul while decorating for a school dance, she made the decision to put her education on hold, get married and start a family. Paul and Mary Lou were married on June 11, 1955 and welcomed son Louis Paul in May of 1956 and daughter, Margaret Ann in June of 1957. She embraced her role as a “stay at home” Mom until returning to U.D. in the 1960’s to complete her education graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1969. After graduation, Mary Lou spent 25 years with the Kettering City Schools primarily teaching Kindergarten at Southdale Elementary School. Mary Lou is survived by her beloved son Louis P. Heckman and devoted daughter-in-law Kim; Also by her beloved daughter Margie Heckman (John Ward); Adored grandsons Jason Weimer (Katie), Eric Weimer (Erin Conway), Tyler and Cole Heckman; Great-granddaughters Grace Olivia and Ella Rose Weimer; brother John Thomas Becker; sisters-in-law Mary Catherine Heckman and Margie Heiss; numerous nieces and nephews; friends too plentiful to name and most of all thousands of individuals whose young minds Mary Lou shaped during her 25 years as an educator. The family would like to thank all the Staff at Lincoln Park Manor, along with Drs. Frank Von Maluski, John Boyle, Mark Romer and Douglas Ditzel for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2013 at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave, Kettering. Mass of Christian Burial to follow on Sat. January 19, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering, with Father Gerald Haemmerle officiating. Burial at Calvary Cemetery.
