

Mary Rice Muse, age 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Heartland of Miamisburg. Mary was born on July 27, 1924, in Fleming County, Kentucky, to Ing Rice and Rosie Ella Craft Rice. Mary moved to Dayton, Ohio when she was 19 years old. She met the love of her life at their place of employment. Thomas Robert Muse and Mary Rice were married on December 30, 1943. Two children were born to them: Sharon Rose Muse on June 22, 1945, and Garey Robert Muse on June 13, 1946. Mary retired from General Motors at Inland Manufacturing Company after 31 years. She was an active member of Central Church of the Nazarene and later in life a member of Parkview Church of the Nazarene. Mary is survived by her daughter, Sharon Muse Ellington (Ron) of Roswell, New Mexico, and their two sons, Brian Ellington of Midland, Texas, and Brent Ellington (Dyan) of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Brian’s children, Bryce and Andrea Ellington and Dyan’s daughter, Emily Romero-Ellington; daughter-in-law Charlene Miller Muse Moderwell and her daughters, Amy Muse Schaaf (Eric) and their daughters, Brianna and Bailey Schaaf; Kim Muse Arndts (Brian) and their children, Shelby and Emma Arndts, all of the Dayton area. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends, including Jack and Sylvia Campbell of Dayton. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Muse; son, Garey Muse; parents, Rev. Ing Rice and his wife, Rosie Ella Rice; and Mary’s stepmother, Mable Eckert Rice; Mary’s mother-in-law, Nellie Muse; brother, Clarence W. Rice, and wife, Agatha Stone Rice, and their son, Clarence E. Rice; sister, Jean Stone, and husband, Thomas Stone, and Jean’s son, Donnie Dunaway; sister, Beulah Wilson, and her husband, Glennis L. Wilson, and their son, Gerald Wilson; and sister-in-law, Ruth Muse Walker, and her husband, C. A. Walker. Mary was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a marvelous cook and loved to entertain her family and friends. She enjoyed taking care of the roses and flowers in her yard in the years before entering the nursing home. Pallbearers will be: Brian Arndts, Shelby Arndts, Charles Campbell, Brian Ellington, Jeff Lawson, Ken Rice, Eric Schaaf, and Jim Stevens. A funeral service will be held at Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road, on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 1 PM. Viewing will be from 12 PM until the time of the funeral on Thursday. Burial will follow the service at Valley View Memorial Gardens, 170 N. Valley Road, Xenia. Rev. Ronald E. Ellington will officiate the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Parkview Church of the Nazarene, Gideons International, or the charity of your choice.
