STOCKMYER, Mary James (Emma), died at her residence in the supportive care of the staff at Brighten Gardens of Washington Township assisted by the compassionate personnel of Crossroads Hospice. Mary was born in Dayton, OH on October 17, 1917 to Harry and Effie (nee: Lutz) James. She graduated from Lewisburg High School and continued her education at Ohio State University where she received both her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Social Work and Counseling.
Mary served as a therapist and psychiatric social worker at Harding Hospital in Worthington, OH, Kettering Medical Center, Kettering, OH and in private practice as a counselor. In addition to being a member of the American Psychotherapy Association, Mary was a Certified Social Worker affiliated with a variety of professional organizations and academies. Mary was also employed by Lutheran Social Services where she served as a counselor, Director of Family and Children’s Services and assisted in establishing the adoption program.
Mary was a life-long Lutheran who lived out her faith by supporting and serving the whole person and the whole family through her counseling. Her faithful caring touched the lives of countless individuals and families.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ray Stockmyer, and her sister Virginia.
Funeral services and entombment will occur at Woodland Mausoleum Chapel, 118 Woodland Ave. Dayton at 1:00PM on Monday November 12, 2012 Rev. Chuck Beckett, Pastor of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, West Carrollton, officiating. Arrangements completed by TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-Far Hills Chapel.
