She was born on May 27, 1927 in Dayton, Ohio to Edward A. and Bessie M. (Walker) Nock. She was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph College and retired from teaching at Julienne High School. Mary was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Church and was very active in the Free Spirits. She belonged to several card clubs playing Hand and Foot. She passed on her love of that game to her family. Many times she was called upon to interpret the rules. Mary loved socializing with friends and family and was always ready for a road trip. She was a great storyteller who kept us all in stitches.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 38 years, Joseph F. Umina in 1995, brothers Edward Jr. and Donald, and nephews Bob Nock and Lee Miley. Survivors include sister-in-law Rosemary Nock, nieces and nephews Jonie Nock, Mary Ann Miley, Jane Cross (Clancy), Tony Citrigno (Margie), Louise Hoover, Elizabeth Naughton, Fred Paulick, Tom Umina (Jo), Tim Umina (Debbie), and two generations of numerous great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 16, from 5-7pm at Tobias Funeral Home – Belmont Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Thursday, January 17 at 10:30am with burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Memorial Fund.
