Mike graduated from Clarksville-Vernon High School in 1960 and went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1960-1963. He remained dedicated to supporting fellow veterans throughout his life as a member of the VFW and American Legion for more than 50 years. Mike was rarely seen without his patriotic vest and was proud to wear it everywhere he went. He also proudly served with the Honor Guard and Color Guard for 24 years, honoring veterans and their families with respect and dedication.
Mike loved the outdoors and the people closest to him. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends, especially when everyone could be together.
He is survived by his devoted wife of more than 50 years, Susie Crews; brother, Phil Ray of Blanchest; children, Michele (Jim) Aker of Kettering, Lisa (Kevin) Longenecker of Union, Dan (Traci) Hazelrigg of Granite Falls, Washington; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Mike will be remembered for his love of family, his pride in serving his country, and the many friendships he built over the years.
A celebration of life will be held from 2:00PM-5:00PM, Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the VFW Post #9582 in Vandalia.
