Mildred was born to Walter and Sarah Mace, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her loving and patient husband, Kenneth Storie; her sons-in-law, John Hetzel and Billy Garrett; and many other family members and friends whom she dearly loved.
She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Sue Garrett and Annette Hetzel; her grandchildren, Rev. Kenny Garrett, Billy Shane Garrett and his fiancée, Stacey Kilburn, Christian Hetzel, and Elizabeth "Izzy" Hetzel; her great-grandchildren, Tatum, Natalia, and Trysten; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Mildred was a faithful member of the General Baptist House of Prayer in Fairborn, Ohio. Throughout her life, she was known for her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, her strength, determination, and the deep love she had for her family. Although her given name was Mildred, she would often introduce herself by saying, "Everyone just calls me Granny." To those who knew her, that title was far more than a nickname, it was a reflection of the love, warmth, wisdom, and care she shared so freely with everyone around her.
Granny never met an antique she didn't think needed a home. She spent a lifetime exploring thrift stores, flea markets, garage sales, and attending auctions which she regarded as a “contact sport”
in search of treasures, collectibles, and pieces of history. Her home became a museum of memories, filled with unique finds and stories behind each one. For her, the joy was never just in the item itself, but in the hunt and the memories made along the way.
She was also known for her love of gardening and feeding those she loved. Family meals were often centered around her home-canned green beans from the garden, a staple that everyone
expected to see on the table. And if there was one dish that became legendary among family and friends, it was her fried corn. Countless meals, holidays, and family gatherings were made special by her cooking, and her recipes will remain cherished traditions for generations to come.
Above all else, Granny loved the Lord. Her faith was not merely something she professed, it was something she lived. Through seasons of joy and sorrow, blessing and hardship, she remained
steadfast in her trust in Christ. Her family takes comfort in knowing that her earthly journey is complete and that she has entered into the presence of her Savior, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
Though she will be greatly missed, her legacy of faith, love, hospitality, hard work, and perseverance will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Dayton for the compassionate care and comfort they provided during Mildred's final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mildred's honor to the Jeremiah Tree. Supporting the ministry that she loved allows her legacy of faith, service, and
encouragement to continue impacting the lives of men seeking a new beginning in Christ. Donations can be made at www.JeremiahTree.org/donate
