Miriam (Mimi) E. (Odell) Hoefflin, 83 of Beavercreek, Ohio passed away Saturday January 12, 2019 at Hospice of Dayton following a stroke late last year. She was born May 24, 1935 in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, the eldest child of Esther and Lester Odell. She married Ralph Pippenger (The Real Thing) on May 16, 1981. Mimi was valedictorian of her high school class and attended Cedar Crest College on a full scholarship where she graduated with honors. She went on to receive her Master’s degree from The Ohio State University in Psychology and was the 57th licensed Psychologist in the State of Ohio. Before starting her private practice, Mimi first worked as a Guidance Counselor in Coshocton, Ohio then as a Guidance Counselor at the Greene County Guidance Center in Xenia, Ohio. As a practicing psychologist for 59 years, Mimi assisted hundreds of patients in expert legal testimony in court decisions, child psychology and family matters. In addition to her long professional career, Mimi was an amazing wife, devoted mother, and grandmother. It was during her years at Ohio State she met her first husband, Reynold Hoefflin. Mimi was very active in politics in Greene County, Ohio in the 60’s and 70’s working on the campaigns for the election of her first husband for County Judge and later County Prosecutor. Mimi leaves behind many friends at her longtime beloved home in Beavercreek, Ohio, her summer get-away home of the past 35 years at the Catawba Island Club (CIC) on Lake Erie as well as her winter home in Sarasota, Florida. Mimi and Ralph docked their Endeavour sloop sailing yacht, “The Real Thing II”, for 24 seasons at CIC while cruising the Great Lakes with family and friends. Mimi and Ralph purchased their first property on Siesta Key in Sarasota, Florida on their honeymoon in 1981 and visited monthly during the winter months. Mimi was an avid Ohio State alumnus attending every home football game at the Horseshoe for 35 years. She enjoyed tennis, camping, canoeing, skiing, and most of all sailing on the Great Lakes and boating on the Intracoastal Waterway in Florida. She was also passionate about the performing arts, singing in the Dayton Philharmonic Chorus as well as playing her grand piano and guitars. She was a decades long season subscriber to the Cincinnati Symphony, the Dayton Philharmonic, The Victoria Theater Association as well as attending local plays at Wright State University. Mimi always doted on her dogs. She showed Sealyham Terriers and was a member of the American Sealyham Terrier Club for 59 years. In her later years, she loved playing Mexican Dominoes with her children and grandchildren. Mimi will be deeply missed by all her family and vast network of friends. Mimi is survived by her husband Ralph Pippenger, her son Geoff (Jodi) Hoefflin, grandchildren Alexa and Brad Hoefflin of Springboro, Ohio, her daughter Kim (Bill) Kerwin, grandchildren Quinn and Ruby Kerwin of Seattle, Washington, her step sons David Pippenger of San Francisco, California and Jason Pippenger of Cincinnati, Ohio. She is also survived by her siblings Roger Odell of Honesdale, Pennsylvania and Susan Gladeck of McLean, Virginia as well as her first husband Reynold Hoefflin of Centerville, Ohio. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held Saturday, February 16th at Tobias of Beavercreek, 3970 Dayton Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, Ohio. Visitation will be at 11:00 am with a memorial service at noon with Fr. Jim Manning officiating and reception to follow.
