Nancy Eileen Achor

Nancy Eileen Achor, age 77 of Centerville passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026. She was born in Dayton to the late Edna and George Achor. She is also preceded in death by her brother Kenneth Achor, brother-in-law Robert States, and sister-in-law Janet Achor.

A graduate of Centerville High School, Nancy attended University of Cincinnati for her undergraduate and then Wright State for her master’s degree.

Education was Nancy’s passion. She began with the Kettering City Schools- at Southdale Elementary, teaching second grade. She was selected to be part of the first team of Title I reading specialists, moving to Indian Riffle Elementary. She closed her 38-year career at Greenmont Elementary, still passionately growing readers.

Nancy maintained a high level of professional development throughout her career. She became one of the first Reading Recovery trained educators for Kettering City Schools. Nancy taught her students well and invested her skills to instruct classroom teachers to be attentive to the needs of evolving skills of emerging readers.

When she was not molding young minds, Nancy enjoyed gardening, she loved flowers and was a very social person who loved spending time with friends and family. She was a member of Church of the Cross UM in Kettering.

Nancy will be deeply missed by her dear siblings, sister Carolyn States and brother Tom Achor and her cousins and special friends.

A Visitation will take place from 3-5:00 pm, Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave. Funeral Service will be at the funeral home the following day, Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at Centerville Cemetery. Following the burial, friends are invited back to the funeral home for food and refreshments.
