ESTES, PATRICIA ANN, age 81 of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on Monday October 24, 2022. She was born on February 4, 1941 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Russell E. and Dorothy M. Bailey. Also preceding her in death are her oldest daughter Tomi Estes, who passed away 1978 and by her husband and friend Bennie C. Estes who died in 1998.
Patricia is survived by her two daughters, Dana (Thomas) Solich of Bradenton, FL. and Melinda "Mindy" Harris of Centerville, OH, her four grandchildren, Brent Solich, Brittany Torres, Robert Breckler and Ryan Harris and by her eight great grandchildren, Kegan, Jaxson, Declan, Noah, Sophia, BriAnna, Brooklyn and Brenden.
Patricia attended Belmont High School. While at Belmont, she designed the Bison Mascot for the school. She then went to the Dayton Art Institute for Fashion Design. Art was a great part of her life. She was extremely talented. However, her main hobby was gourmet cooking. Most important to her was spending time with all of her kids and grandkids whenever she could. Her room always had pictures of all the grandchildren who she loved very much.
She was a very hard worker who was very innovative, working side by side with Bennie in the "woodgraining" family business for years. Her artistic talent was key in the business. She also owned a cleaning business and was a care-giver before retiring. She was a loving and caring mother, close with her daughters. Always a shoulder to cry on if we needed it.
In 2004, at the age of 63, she suffered a stroke paralyzing her on her left side. As a result, she was admitted to a Skilled Nursing Care and resided in a rehab facility over the past 18 years.
She was the type of person who people were drawn to. She was very personable and liked to help others. She created a social group of friends at the nursing home. She was an advocate for others as well and tried to help or protect whoever she could.
Aside from the stroke, she is a survivor of melanoma skin cancer, stage 3 lung cancer and uterine cancer. She never quit. Always a fighter, very strong willed and had a positive attitude. Her faith was the main thing that helped her through all of her obstacles in life. She would attend church every Sunday if the nursing home was able to secure a church to come into the facility.
Bennie Estes will be buried with mother and Tomi. Bennie and Pat were together most of their lives and this is very special to all the family that they rest together.
There will be a gathering of friends in Ohio on Saturday November 12, 2022 from 11am to 12 noon at the Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, Ohio. Pastor Don Payne will have a Memorial Service at 12 noon. Inurnment will take place at Miami Valley Memory Gardens in Centerville, Ohio immediately following the service.
