Paul was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on September 12th, 1962, to Dorothea and Coy Hamm.
He grew up in Middletown, Ohio, and graduated from Middletown High School in 1980. Later in life, Paul found joy in slot car racing as a founding member of the Dayton Slot Car Club for 30 years, where he built lasting friendships and enjoyed the thrill of racing. A true sports fan, he especially loved Notre Dame and Bengals football, rarely missing a game. In his youth, Paul played many sports, but football was always his favorite. He also had a passion for cooking, often inspired by the Food Network. His lifelong interest in public service was shaped early through Safety Patrol, Boy Scouts, and the Police Explorer program. He spent most of his career working in safety training and workers’ compensation. Most recently, he retired from the Paratransit division of Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority, working as a customer service coordinator.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Amy Hamm; “favorite” daughter, Anne Hamm; siblings Gail Frederick (David) of Louisville, Kentucky and Gerald Hamm of Middletown, Ohio; brother-in-law, Bob Nichols of Middletown, Ohio; in-laws Don and Joyce Porter of Dayton, Ohio; sister-in-laws, Carrie Posladek of Cleveland, Ohio and Jeni Pence (Mike) of Dayton, Ohio; nephews, Donald Posladek (Kelsey) of Cleveland, Ohio and Eli Pence (Brittany) of Dayton, Ohio; niece, Dr. Sydney Pence (Dr. Austin Shaffer) of Dublin, Ohio; great nieces, Harlyn Posladek and Jocelyn Posladek of Cleveland, Ohio; great nephew, Bennett Shaffer of Dublin, Ohio; and lifelong friends, Chuck Gibson (Jonette) and Ken Ott (Bonnie).
He is predeceased by his parents; brother, Jon Hamm; and sisters, Barbara Nichols and Mildred Samad.
A memorial service and reception will be held on August 9th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at David’s United Church of Christ at 170 West David Road, Dayton, Ohio 45429.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Boy Scouts of America at donations.scouting.org. Paul was a loving and caring person, who never missed an opportunity to tell one of his many jokes. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
His family wishes to thank the staff of Sycamorespring Health Center in Miamisburg, Ohio, and especially the Therapy Department. They would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to Ken Ott, whose unwavering friendship, steady support, and countless acts of kindness meant so much.
