MANZ, Peter Stephen, 92, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2012 at Kirkwood Villa Assisted Living, San Jose, CA. Pete was born in Dayton, OH on November 18, 1919 to Stephan Manz and Anna Kraus Manz Possert. He was preceded in death by: brother, Joseph Manz; sisters, Katherine and Elizabeth Manz; stepbrother, Frank Possert; stepsisters, Anna Weckesser, Agnes Balch; and ex-wife, Esther Manz. Pete lettered in basketball, football and track while at Kiser High School where he graduated in 1938. After graduation he participated in the Golden Gloves and later served in the USMC, earning an expert rifleman’s medal. He spent his working career as a machinist in the tool and die industry and resided in Dayton until moving to San Jose, CA in 1968. The California weather suited his love of playing golf to a “tee” and also provided many pleasurable hours of flower gardening, reading his favorite books and solving crossword puzzles. He attended Central Christian Church and was active at the Kirkwood Senior Center. He is survived by his sister; Anna Manz Litle of Troy, OH; brother Markus Possert, Dayton, OH; son, Peter S. Manz Jr. (Cynthia) of Beavercreek, OH and daughter, Diane Manz Oakley of Spring, TX; four grandchildren; Laura Manz Middleton, Jason Manz (Elizabeth), Brian Oakley (Donna) and Christopher Oakley; and seven great-grandchildren; Emma and Grant Middleton; Emily, Abigail and Cameron Manz; Jordan and Robert Oakley. Also by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Peggy Heise for her friendship and care, as well as providing transportation for Pete on his errands and appointments over the last several years. She was an invaluable asset for enhancing our Dad’s quality of life. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME - BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton Xenia Rd. Deacon Robert Kozlowski officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday. A graveside service will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Dayton, OH.
