

Bennett, Philip Arlen 9/28/1935 – 9/22/2021 from Hudsonville, Michigan was born September 28, 1935 to Howard and Cora Bennett. He grew up in Dayton, Ohio, where at the age of 20, married his wife of 63 years, Marlene Ann Bennett (1936-2019). In September of 1966 he was blessed with the birth of his first son Robert. Another son, Steve, would follow in November of 1968. Phil enjoyed spending time with his boys, coaching their baseball teams, golfing and yearly skiing trips out west. At a young age, Phil started working at Rapid Design Service in Dayton, Ohio until 1979, when the company transferred him and his family to the corporate office in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After 39 years with the company, where he reached the position of Executive Vice President, Phil retired at the age of 62. After retirement, Phil enjoyed spending time with his family on their boat in Grand Haven, Michigan. He golfed, took numerous fishing trips and spent the rest of his time working for the many charities that he and his wife Marlene were so passionate about. For 15 years, Phil worked over 4 hours a day for Habitat for Humanity, he loved building things. As he got older, he turned his energy to other charitable organizations such as Kids Food Basket where Phil delivered food to schools serving under nourished children throughout Western Michigan. Indian Trails Camp for disabled children was another passion of his. Phil also was an active member of Ambucs, where he served as Treasurer for many years. Phil is survived by his sons Robert (Bridget) Bennett, Steven (Eloise) Bennett; grandchildren Kathleen Bennett, Molly Bennett, Shannon Bennett, Jacob Bennett, Lauren Bennett, Dr. Hannah (Michael) Dearworth and Isaac Johnson. Interment will be Saturday, October 2nd at 10:00 am at Mt Zion Park Cemetery, 27 S Fairfield Rd, Beavercreek, Ohio 45440 with lunch provided immediately following at DoubleTree Suites Dayton – Miamisburg, 300 Prestige Pl, Miamisburg, OH 45342. There will also be a Celebration of Life event held on Tuesday, October 5th from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm at Gravity Taphouse Grille, 3210 Deposit Dr NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Please come enjoy dinner/drinks and share a story about Phil.
