Ralph Edward Gates, 70, passed into eternal rest on January 9 at the Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky. Formerly of Beavercreek and Bradford, Ohio, he had been a resident of Kentucky since 2007. The second of four children, Ralph was born in Piqua, Ohio on May 1, 1949 to Gus Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Monnin) Gates. A tool maker and machinist by profession, Ralph was an avid and knowledgeable collector of antiques and memorabilia. He enjoyed fishing, loved turtles and dogs, and was a protector of all wildlife. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Joette; daughter, Kelly (Kurt); sons, Tony (Rhonda), Steven, and Mark (Amy); grandchildren, Kate, Kyle, Morgan, Bradly, Andrew, Cody, Kaleb, Aleesha, Noah, and Shelby; and great-grandchildren, Addiline and Lincoln. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Spay It Forward, P.O. 653, Beattyville, Kentucky 41311 for their free spay and neuter program in eastern Kentucky. Honorary pallbearers: Ron Barrett, Gregg Cross, Glenn Duff, Mike Foley, Mike Motz, Kyle Napier, Dan Potter, Blake Shortill, and Ian Teal. A memorial mass will be held at 11am, January 25, 2020 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Campton, KY.
