Rick Heben, age 74, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on August 21, 2024. Born in Massillon, Ohio, on January 24, 1950, Rick was a cherished member of his community and a loving family man. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marcia; daughters, Melissa Sheldrick (Andrew), and Christy Sanders (Allen); son, Andy Heben (Joline); and eight grandchildren, Brady, Mallory, Evan Sanders; Alayna, Emma, Eleanor Sheldrick; Kora and Levi Heben. Rick was a proud alumni of St. Mary’s in Massillon, Canton Central Catholic High School in Canton, and the University of Dayton, where he played football. His professional life was marked by his role as a strong leader. Rick built a successful real estate empire, remembered by his colleagues as “Coach” for his dedication and mentorship. However, his passion lay in creating lasting memories with his loved ones, as we lovingly called him Mr. Tradition. Rick was the architect of numerous family traditions from Memorial Day bike rides with his grandchildren to holiday decorations that could rival Clark Griswold’s. One of Rick‘s most cherished accomplishments was his book, “4 Quarters”, that he wrote after he was diagnosed with his Lewy Body Dementia.
A devout member of the church of the Incarnation, Rick’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. His hobbies included cheering for the University of Notre Dame football team, running 4 marathons and feeding Blue Jays on his windowsill, a simple joy that connected him with nature.
Visitation for Rick will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 p.m. at Tobias funeral home – Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, OH 45429.
