The son of Edna and Howard Houser, he was born December 9, 1940. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Don Newman, nieces Jennifer Kelly (Craig) and Nicki Newman (Dan Gunderson), nephew Andrew Newman, plus much loved great-nieces Grace, Emily, Hannah, Rachael and Anna and great-nephew Milo.
The family wishes to acknowledge his visiting home nurse Julie Dabbelt and especially Dr. Catherine Sargent his physician, mentor and friend. These strong women added to his life in years and quality of life.
Richard graduated from Oakwood High School in 1958 and attended Ohio University. After four years in the Air Force he took his computer skills back to OU and then to his life career as a Senior Project Manager for the Department of Defense Logistics Contract Administration. He retired early to support his elderly father, Howard Houser. After his father passed, he remained in the cottage at St. Leonard’s where he became the unofficial mayor of the local community. He was a friend to all including neighbors, maintenance, transportation, nurses, nurses’ aides and others. He shared his joy for life and often made someone’s day. He will be remembered as a “Good Guy”.
